Thank you to everyone who threw such massive support against Prop 8.
Even though America prides itself as a place where freedom, justice, and equality rule, apparently, not for everyone.
Gay rights were viciously put down in Arkansas, Arizona and Florida, though Connecticut defeated the tricks of the right, and will not have an amendment to overturn their recent Supreme Court decision! Congratulations, Tina, Jess, and the rest of Connecticut!
Billie called it a "devilish function." When you have a revelation, and you realize that you want to be this new way, not the old way anymore, but things pop up to oppose and try to defeat you, Buddhists call it a devilish function.
As a historian, I've rejected the "progressivist" view of history, i.e., that society and civilization progress towards a greater good and higher state. Rather, I think civilizations meander, rather than progress. Though this morning, as I held my wife and stroked her hair, I couldn't help but think, "Wait, aren't we supposed to be getting better?"
I don't know what the answer is. Do we progress? Or do we let the tides of popular opinion reign?
Another important question: What is the role of the government to defend minority rights, when the majority is sternly against them?

I'm so sorry. :(
I'm sorry that the folks of Arizona, Arkansas and Florida saw fit to vote against equality, sadly they couldn't have seen it that way. It will be interesting to see how Obama's administration defends minority rights. QRx
We progress. We will progress. We HAVE to progress. There is no other option. I will fight this until I die.
Civilizations progress, baby, and we're meant to evolve. Unfortunately, most humans FUCKING SUCK at evolving.
